چکیده

The effect of the spanwise discretisation on numerical calculations of the turbulent flow around a circular cylinder is systematically assessed at a subcritical Reynolds number of 10000 in the frame of three-dimensional large-eddy simulation. The eddy-viscosity k-equation subgrid scale model is implemented to evaluate unsteady turbulent flow field. Large-eddy simulation is known to be a reliable method to resolve such a challenging flow field, however, the high computational efforts restrict to low Reynolds number flow or two-dimensional calculations. Therefore, minimum spatial density in the spanwise direction or cylinder axis direction needs to be carefully evaluated in order to reduce high computational resources. In the present study, the influence of the spanwise resolutions to satisfactorily represent threedimensional complex flow features is discussed in detail and minimum spatial density for high Reynolds flow is suggested.

Effects Of Frequency Variation At Inlet Flow On The Vortex Shedding Frequency Behind A Circular Cylinder

In many applications the flow that past bluff bodies has frequency nature (oscillated) and it is not uniform. This kind of flow has effects on the formation of vortex shedding behind bluff bodies. In this paper the flow around a circular cylinder was numerically simulated. The effects of frequency variation at inlet flow on the vortex shedding frequency were investigated. The transient Two-Dime...

Large Eddy Simulation of Circular Cylinder Flow by Using Higher Order WENO Schemes

This paper investigates the feasibility of a high order finite difference weighted essentially nonoscillatory(WENO) scheme for large eddy simulations(LES) with implicit subgrid scale model. In this paper, the 5th-order WENO scheme with a conservative 4th-order central differencing for viscous terms are used to simulate the flow past a circular cylinder at ReD = 3900. The turbulent effects near ...

Effect of Blockage on Spanwise Correlation in a Circular Cylinder Wake

A short series of experiments was conducted with the aim of assessing the possible effect of tunnel blockage on spanwise correlation lengths measured in the near-wake of a circular cylinder. The results indicate that increasing blockage acts to increase spanwise correlation. This finding has important implications for the conduct and reporting of both physical and numerical experiments on bluff...

Turbulent Drag Reduction by Spanwise Wall Oscillations

The objective of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of wall oscillation as a control scheme of drag reduction. Two flow configurations are considered: constant flow rate and constant mean pressure gradient. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using Fourier-Chebyshev spectral methods and the oscillation in sinusoidal form is enforced on the walls through boundary conditions for the sp...

EFFECT OF TIME-DEPENDENT TRANSPIRATION ON AXISYMMETRIC STAGNATION-POINT FLOW AND HEATTRANSFER OF A VISCOUS FLUID ON A MOVING CIRCULAR CYLINDER

Effect of time dependent normal transpiration on the problem of unsteady viscous flow and heat transfer in the vicinity of an axisymmetric stagnation point of an infinite circular cylinder moving simultaneously with time-depended angular and axial velocities and with time-dependent wall temperature or wall heat flux are investigated. The impinging free stream is steady with a strain rate . A re...
